Every sectional door carries a data label, usually inside an end stile or on the back of the bottom section, giving manufacturer, series, and build date — the fastest path to an exact match. When the label is gone, we measure and photograph instead: section height (18 or 21 inches on most 7-foot doors), overall width, steel gauge, construction layers, and the stamped profile — raised long panel, raised short panel, flush, ribbed pan, or carriage overlay.
We order regularly from Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Overhead Door, C.H.I., and Raynor. Stock white 25-gauge short-panel sections are often on the shelf for next-day work. A Clopay Gallery or Coachman section with insulation and applied overlays, or an Amarr Classica in a stain-look finish, is a factory order — plan on one to three weeks. Discontinued profiles sometimes have a current-generation cousin that reads identically from the street; sometimes they do not, and we say so rather than installing a section that will always look wrong.
Color is the honest conversation. Factory white from 2012 and factory white today share a paint code, but a decade of San Diego sun chalks the older sections a half-shade down, so a new section reads brighter for the first season. Options: let it weather in, repaint the whole door with an exterior acrylic latex rated for metal, or move to full replacement.
The bottom section deserves special attention, because it is the one that gets hit and the one that carries load. Bottom brackets anchor the lift cables there under full spring tension, so a bent or torn bottom section is a structural problem, not a cosmetic one — the same impact often bends the bracket, stretches a cable, or knocks the door out of level. We inspect the cables and bottom fixtures on every panel call. In Ocean Beach and Point Loma, the bottom section is also the first thing to rust through from the inside out where the astragal traps salt moisture against bare steel.
